NEED A LITTLE INSPIRATION

Remember this post on NEEDLE INSPIRATION.
This picture from Country Living mag.

Well here is my Quilt.

It measures 68" X 84".

I JUST LOVE HOW IT TURNED OUT.

I also made a pillow sham to match. The sham measures 32 x 25 with a 2" flange.

I used scraps to make the centre and then used my leftover fabric for the rest.

Here is a close up.

Here is the back of the quilt. Love the texture of the blues.
I do all my own quilting on a little gracie frame.
I used a meandering or stipple effect on both the sham and the quilt.

I ALWAYS WANTED A " HUMMER"

I always wanted a Hummer.
Mr DH has been busy again in his workshop.
I'm so proud of his work. He puts his heart into it.....

This is not a kit.

Mr. DH cuts every piece by hand.
He uses scrap wood that has been given to him.
He uses all recycled.

LOOK AT THE DETAIL...

The wheels are made in three pieces.
The grill is cut out with a dremmel tool.

Now I have no excuse to blog. I'ts mighty comfy.

NEEDLE Inspiration

That's all I needed. A little needle inspiration.

My grandson just graduated to a twin bed.
First came the crib, them the youth bed and now the twin.
Not just any twin but an antique brass bed.

I had seen this bed in the Country Living magazine and thought I could make a red, white and blue quilt.
A nautical themed quilt.
This would work I could recreate this look. See the quilt at the
bottom of the bed.

I went down to my sewing studio and pulled out of my stash these
prints in red and blue.
Now I keep on hand at least 10 yards
of white fabric for just in case......

The top piece I will use as my binding.

So I went to work cutting them up into 4.5 inch and 2.5 inch squares. With the white fabric I cut 2.5 inch and 2.5 x 4.5 inch rectangles.

All of my print 2.5 inch squares I drew a line across the centre.
Then I attached them to the white 2.5 x 4.5 inch rectangles.
I keep a bin full of my scraps that I have cut into 2.5 inches.
I call these leaders and enders.

You see I take two right sides together and sew them
then I continue to sew my quilt pieces together.

I chain piece. It makes it go along a lot faster.

Then I will end with ender. see picture.

Here is where they go once the leader an enders are sewn into this basket. Then down the road when the inspiration arises
I can make a scrappy quilt and half of my work is done.

I make sure that I press each seam open. Now to assemble the star.

still another 17 to go.

I have been good... Happy new year

Well Santa was sure good to me. I MUST HAVE BEEN GOOD...

Look what he brought me.
A red KITCHENAID STAND MIXER.

Well you know how much I love red.... Let's give it a try.

On tonights menu we are having homemade cauliflower soup with fresh biscuits.
L et's get started.
1 cauliflower head. I use half.
1 whole sweet onion chopped.
2 carrots finely chopped
tsp of garlic, I buy it in a jar already chopped.
3 potatoes pealed and chopped.

In a large pot add a tbsp of oil (I use coconut) heard it's better for me.
Saute your onion , carrots and garlic.
Then add 5 cups of water.
Add potatoes and simmer for about a 1/2 hour.
Then add the cauliflower.
continue cooking for another 15 mins. Then I take my hand mixer and blend the ingredients to puree it.
I leave a few chunks in for MR. DH. He likes it that way.

Dish it out and I add some graded old cheddar to the top.

Now on to my biscuits.
2 cups of flour
1 tbsp of baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

1/4 cup of butter
3 tbsp of shortening
3/4 cup of milk.
I added some raisins(optional).
into the bowl I added all the ingredients except for the milk.
I used my flat beater on slow till the ingred. looked like coarse crumble
then I added the milk and mixed it. turn it out onto a floured board and knead it gently.
Now roll it out to 1/2in. and use a 2inch cutter.
bake at 450 for 8-10 mins. I used parchment paper.

Now enjoy
HMMMMM YUMMM!

Nothing like home made soup and biscuits.

JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME.

Sewing frantically to get these two pillows done.

I had seen them on the CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT, and I knew I had to have them.

Here is my inspiration from BALLARD DESIGNS. Now that looks super easy.
I had all the fabric , so I went to my sewing studio and began to cut a finished 16 x 16 pillow.
Added the JOYEUX NOEL first with my iron on transfer then on went the tree. I used Jute for the trunk and a red ribbon bow for the top.
Here is mine.

I THINK IT TURNED OUT GREAT FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST. Mine O,
BALLARD DESIGNS 39.99. ,

Now I'm not done yet, PB had a poinsettia pillow on line for 37.77 , made with burlap linen and felt.

You know where I'm going with this don't you.
Cut my burlap linen to size, cut out poinsettia leaves , adhered them to the fabric with my glue gun, added
the bells for the center, stitched the two together and stuffed it with poly fill..
This cute little pillow cost me O. Just my time.

Not finished yet..On to another project. I had these stars that I made years ago for a craft sale.
I printed off some sheet music (courtesy of the graphic fairy) and went about glueing the torn pieces onto the star with Mod Podge. When the piece was still a little tacky I sprinkled on some glitter.
Here it is all finished and hanging inside a wreath.

I still am working on my snow people...I will post about them in a few days...

LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW....

Well the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful......
so, we decorated our tree.

Welcome to our home. Come on up FERGUS welcomes you into our living room.
This year our tree is in our living room, rather than our family room.
Here are some more pics of

We put up a white tree in our family room as you can see here.

Isn't Mr. Snowy Owl the cutest.

I decided to make good use of the day and did all my Christmas baking.
I made 7 doz shortbread cookies,

7 mini loaves of christmas bread, plus 1 reg size loaf of Christmas bread,
2 doz choc chip cookies,
4 doz pecan puffs,
then they went into the freezer.

and I did down 3 jars of cranberries.

RECIPE FOR THE SHORTBREAD. EASY..
1lb of butter soft,
1 cup of icing sugar,
3 cups of flour,
1/2 cup of cornstarch.
wHIP FOR 10 MINUTES. DROP BY SPOON ON UNGREASED COOKIE SHEET.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 min.
melt in your mouth goodness...

In the meantime busy knitting for the grandkids. Neck cowls.

It's Beginning to Look A lot Like Christmas

Busy Hands part two

Well if you remember in this past post here , I was working on

a snow home for this cute little fellow.

I love crafts of all kinds. I guess you have already guessed that.
I don't just sew and make quilts, I paint on fabric, make cute little snowman like this fellow.

He is now completed.
I started out with styrofoam balls and paperclay.
When he was dry I used my craft paints and gave him a character.

I also made a cute glitter home.

Painted a paper mache house blue, added some snow and then glitter.I used a Terrarium and added snow to the roof top.

I have a few more snowman in the works. Maybe an angel or two.

Busy Hands

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas!!
This morning at 7am I happened to look outside
and it was snowing. That's not uncommon for this time of the year. But I'm not ready for it till
Christmas.

I have been in my sewing studio most of the day.
Preparing gifts for that special someone.
I was in fabricland the other day and saw this
fabric and a light bulb went off.
Perfect for a Christmas Stocking!!
I found it in the reduced upholstery section.

It has been awhile since I sewed a stocking, so I went about and made my template and began cutting.
The stocking looked pretty bare so I added piping and a cuff.
Now there is a STOCKING!!
I filled it with plastic garbage bags, then proceeded to add a few toys.
Don't you think it turned out GREAT!!
Here it is on my Front Door welcoming all my

friends.

Now that's not all as you can see I'm working on something special. Can you guess?? Also here in the craft room I have displayed a few pieces that I will be adding to it.

A Finish and Yummy Apple Crisp

Been busy sewing for my Etsy shop.
Here is a cute table runner made with 12 days of christmas charm pack.
Whipped together really fast.

Looks great with the pillow cover I made.

Apples, Apple, Apples, So many picked this year from our Spy Tree.
So lets whip up another Cranberry Apple Crisp.
First peel the apples. I used 8 apples. Love my new Starfrit apple peeler. Cuts the time in half.
Then I used the cute apple slicer that came with it.
Apples lined up in a row on my new chopping board with srainer.
All the topping in a bowl.
1/4 c of brown sugar
1/4 cup of white sugar
1/3 c of rolled oats
1/4 c of cinnimon (I like lots)
6 tblsp of cold butter
Toss the chopped apples in a bowl with sugar and 1 tsp of lemon juice
Rinse 1 cup of fresh cranberries and add to chopped apples.
Spray your dish with cooking oil
Add the ingredients than top off with your mixed topping.
Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
Done.
Yummy serve warm with your favourite Ice Cream.
Now off to our Euchre Party.

I'm keeping my little featherweight busy these days.

Here is a pillow I just completed using Kate Spain's 12 days of Christmas charm pack. It measures 20" x 20".

Another finish to add to my Etsy shop.

As well my hands. I had some felted wool (some) is just a understatement, I have a shelf full of felted wool ready to be cut for my rug hooking.

So I took out a few pieces and made this primitive penny rug.
It measures 8" x 15" Made it festive with some Christmas socks and decorations. Another finish for my Etsy shop.
Now I think I am due a mini holiday.

Love this magazine, Primitive Quilts and Projects fall issue
I have a finish. This cute little tabbletopper caught my eye.

I have only made a few primitive quilts, but this one went together so fast. The log cabin blocks and the wool applique is what sold me. I made this one for my grandaughter's birthday.

My daughter's birthday is also this month and I put together this cute little girlie apron. She just loved it.
Hope every one is enjoying this warm spell.

Fall on the Front Porch

Welcome.......
Fall is finally here and my front porch is decorated, bring on the fall colours.
No monotone colours for me.
Love oranges, blacks, yellows .
A lantern with a crow and pumpkin. My cute little rat on the pumpkin and the corn stalks leftover from my harvest.
I had orange marigolds that I could not throw away so they went in the watering can.
Lots of butternut squash adds a little more flare. My yellow mums are sure putting on a show.
A large wreath on the door completes the look.
Happy Autumn everyone!

Spicy Pear Chutney

Pears, Pears and more Pears....

Fall is definetley in the air.

So I have decided that best way to make the most of these Pears is to make preserves.
Now this Recipe come from Jane @cottage at the crossroads.
First gather all your ingredients. Hmm looks like alot on my counter doesn't it.
Wash the 250ml canning jars. (12 1/2pint and One large Jar just in case.)
Put on your apron and wash and core those Pears.
Add all those ingredients into a dutch oven and stir for 2 1/2 hours. You are almost there.

While the ingredients are simmering on the stove take your bottles and give them a hot bath in another dutch oven to sterilize.
Oh the anticipation... Taste test. HMMM... GOOOD , We are now ready to pour the chutney into the hot jars and seal. Add labels . Ready for gift giving. Great for chicken, turkey, cheese and crackers........

While I was making chutney I also made 2 loaves of zuchini bread (recipe here) .

Bow Tie Quilt

A Finish. This quilt was so fun and easy to make.

First I cut from an assortment of blues, then I proceeded to make those cute bow ties. With a little help from my friend. Here it is up on my design wall already to add the white borders.
I used my leftover fabric and pieced the binding.
This quilt measures 60 "x 60" .
Here it is ready to compliment my guest room.

Do you remember the signs of September ....

If I recall there was a song out many years ago about September...
Fall is my favourite time of the year.
We still have warm days and cool evenings for sleeping.
The colours of fall with the leaves changing on the trees, red gold crimson..
My veg garden is winding down.

We ate the last cob of corn , it was delicious. The cobs weren't large but the cornels were sweet. The corn stalks as so tall. This is our fist attempt in growing corn.
From one packet we recieved 40 cobs. Not bad. Now the stalks when dried out will be great for decorating the front of the house for fall.

Have you ever tried to grow pumpkins? Well my pumpkins had lots of flowers and only 2 pumpkins formed then died.???? Any suggestions...

Wow! look at my sunflowers... They are getting bigger and bigger every day.
" I LOVE SUNFLOWERS"

The tomatoes are still producing but they sure are taking a long time to get ripe.
So I have brought some in and placed them on the window sill to ripen.
Our zuchini and cucumbers have finished . But my green string beans are still producing.

On to the the side yard my apple trees are full.

My Macs are soon ready to pick and the Spy have still time to ripen.
Yummy apple pie, apple crisp, applesause.......

Around the other side our Pear tree is full and any day now great for the picken.
Any pear recipes you can offer , much appreciated.

My flowers are still blooming, the black eyes suzies are sure putting on a show.

One small rose, Our rose of sharron is in full bloom, Bee balm is flowering again.

Look who just came out of the garden Max and following behind Fergus.

Around to the back my window box on the shed is still putting on a show.

Look what is ready!!!

I was told that no need to plant corn. The raccoons will eat it before you do.

No Way!! I planted it anyway. 7 Rows of corn . Well its ready for picking. Here is a picture of what I picked today. Tomatoes, zucchini and corn. Our Pear tree is so full the branches are bending. I picked a few to see if they will ripen indoors.
Yummy!! guess what we are having for lunch.

Snowman Snowman Snowman

Snowman... No not that time of year yet! Got ya thinking right...

My dear grandaughter has hers finished. Remember , ok maybe not but back in March on spring break My grandaughter and I had a craft day making snowman. Paper clay and styrofoam balls.

Here is hers finished. What a great job! She finished hers yesterday. Did I mention that she just turned eight.

We started back in March and used paper clay(found at Michaels) and molded the paper clay onto styrofoam balls.(dollar store)
We used wooden sticks to hold the legs and arms and head in place.
The nest step , be patient and wait for the clay to dry.. Months go by... No it does not take that long, but we didn't want to rush...
Next she put on a coat of gesso. (Found at Michaels) . Once the gesso dried ...more time went by,
She then could start to paint... wait on went the glue and glitter..
Then came the paint. Here she is painting her snowfriend. Nana came upon this free sled and thought it would be perfect with the snowfriend.
We added some new sled rope and papa glued on the snowfriend to the sled.

It's never too early to start your Christmas Crafts.

Bee Pillow

Oh My! Oh My! Oh My! You will never guess.

Ok Ok I must start at the beginning. While surfing the net and reading all my beautiful followers and those the I follow I saw this cute Bee Pillow sitting in the most comfortable chair at Between Naps on the Porch Her home office reno here.

I was actually looking at the chair and the BEE PILLOW said what about me. So I googled Bee pillow and up came Ballards. Hmm only in the states. As you know I live in Canada. So by the time you add in the shipping it becomes too costly.

Oh well. Then I visited Three Pixie Lane, her kitchen hereAnother BEE PILLOW IT CAN"T BEEEEE. So next I went to Source Collection where this pillow can be purchased and again only in the states.
Don't get me wrong, I order from the states. Then I happen to read an older post going back to Oct 2010 and ****** Here is the pillow by Lindy here.

Horray!!

So I followed her instructions to a teee. I copied the pattern on to transfer paper
then used graphite paper to copy on Linen Burlap. I proceeded to paint. I have a container full of crafts for when the grandkids come over.
Here it is painted.

Then I proceeded to make the cording. I chose blue and white ticking. Yikes my bobbin ran out. Oh well I will fill up two more and proceed.
The back is made of muslin. So here is the pillow my BEE PILLOW in the guest room.
What do you think. Didn't it turn out great. A Big thank you to Lindy.

Who's coming for dinner

Who's coming for dinner
It's been a cooler day here in Ontario. Makes you want to bake. So off to the garden to pick a large zucchini. Time to make zucchini bread.
Here is a yummy recipe from my friend Janet.
Pre- heat oven at 325 degrees
Grease and flour 2 loaf pans 9x5

3 eggs
2 c sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1 c oil (canola)
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt

add to the mixture
1 1/2 c of chopped nuts or choc chips and dried cranberries
3 cups of zucchini

mix well
Bake for 1 hour. (set your timer)
Yummy we had this with our dinner and a fresh caesar salad with chicken, cherry tomatoes fresh from the vine,steamed green beans freshly picked and to top it all off for dessert we had custard with strawberries.I hope you enjoyed your meal....lol

How does your garden grow?

Can you believe that we are now in August.
Where does the time go?

Well my garden has exploded with all the heat that we have been getting and the rain.
They are haying in the back fields. Thought I would take some pics, these were taken from my kitchen window. As well, can you see the cucumber hiding under the leaves. My tomatoes are slowly turning red and I have just picked a batch of cherry tomatoes. Don't they look yummy? Can you see the yellow pumpkin hiding under its leaves. These pumpkins are to grow to 100 lbs. Can't wait to see this happen. We have an abundance of zuccini . I have picked 45 so far. I only planted 2 plants.
My grandaughter here is watering the garden at its early stage. See the difference.
Well its much to hot to be weeding today so lets go to my sewing studio and see where I'm at with the bow tie quilt along.
I am finished with the squares so now on to designing my quilt. Here it is on my design wall and a few sewn together.

BOW TIE QUILT ALONG

Well it's time to get back on the saddle so they say, and start quilting again.
So I'm getting on the bandwagon in the BOW TIE Quilt along.
There are many sights as Pleasant Home .

Sewing , sewing on a hot day

We are having a heat wave.

Time to stay in where it is cool. My sewing studio is in the lower level.
So it is just the right temp for sewing.
My grandaughter came by for a visit for the day and we decided that it was time for her to try her hand at sewing.
So Nana made a template out of tissue and we proceeded to make the top for a sundress. She sewed a little on my featherweight but I think she was scared of the speed. So nana took over. She is going to be 8 yrs at the end of the month.

I don't have yardage in fun material for a sundress so we improvised with quilting fabric.

Here' s the dress completed.

In the garden

How's your summer been so far? Ours has been very busy with the gardens

If you read about in the garden here, Then you know that we have been working hard on our front gardens.

Here , The front walkway with tumbled stone and riverrock, an enlarged front step, solar lights and a new bench completes the look.

The other side of the front we clipped the shrubs, roto tilled the rest of the garden then Mr, DH added the stone border.

Next went in 1 yard of dark pine mulch.

What a transformation. I'm sure you will agree.

Then off to the west side of the house. Mr dh roto tilled that side as well. Got rid of the plants and then he sodded.

So clean and tidy.

As far as the other gardens around the house, they will need very little upkeep. We mulched them all so it will cut back on the weeding. Have a super weekend!

In the Garden

I posted some time ago some pictures of the front of our home. This is our second season here at this home. We moved here Nov. 2009.

Well the flowers and plants have become overgrown and it's time for a change.

So here is the before of the front garden this past year .

Now here is the after. We had the landscapers here for the day and they did an awesome job at removing all the plants and laying down my new walkway and front step.

Since the grade was low to the driveway they laid 12" of limestone screenings.

Then laid the stone. I went with tumbled pewter to match our brick on the house. Since there was now a slope at the edge we they put down river rock.

As well river rock was put under the living room window.

Well what a transformation.

We are still in the process of landscaping the other half of the front.

That post will follow.

Not quite sure if I'm going to place a bench under the window or go with a bistro set.

I had seen this ladder on French Larkspur blog and I asked my dh if he could make me one.
He said why? there is one in the rafters. It used to be your Dads.
Well dh got it down, I cleaned it up and then I added a couple of quilts.

Toile and the guest room

Well when I put my mind to it I won't leave it alone until it gets done.
Well I have been busy working on my guest bedroom.
We saw the toile bedskirt and pillows now here's the wall behind the bed.
I love these plates. Don't they standout.
Now the wall as you enter the room had a shelf that said HELP!! So here's the before
(this is it at Christmas)and the after.
No more cries for help. A little paint
and dark brown glaze.

The other wall or closet wall hangs this cute mirror and pearl heart. Just a little love...
See what's in the mirror. Then I found this ladder in our garage that was my Dad's so I put it to good use.

I hung some quilts.
Now this room is not finished yet. It is a work in progress.

Beautiful day in the gardens

Today was a glorious day. Sun and hot temps. My back gardens are starting to explode.
Here are a few picks of the rockery.
As well last Friday was a PA day for my grandaughter so we decided to roto-till the veg garden. So 3 hours later it was ready for raking and cleaning up.
Boy was she a great little helper. She picked rocks, dead wood and grass that her papa had pulled up with the roto-till. She was so excited that earlier that day we went shopping for our vegs.
She picked lettuce, zucchini, cucumbers, corn, giant pumpkins, Tomatoes (beefsteak as well as cherry), basil and last but not least green beans.
We planted till the mosquitoes were about to take us away. But we got it all in.
The next day I added the old ladder
that was my dads and added a few garden artifacts as well as the birdhouse.
I placed the ladder over the beans so they have a place to climb.Look hard.
I was later told that my corn would grow but before we get to sample it the raccoons will eat it. hmmmm.
Well we shall see. This is our first veg garden at this house.
Now to keep Fergus and Max out as well as the little varmints.until next time, Linda

Well I rec'd licky split fabric, not any fabric but beautiful toile .

Blue and ivory. 5 yards to be exact from Fabric. Com.

Monday here was a holiday to celebrate Queen Victorias Birthday. Or some may know it as May 24 weekend.

Anyhow Monday was sew in day. I made a bedskirt not any bedskirt but a box pleat bedskirt for my antique iron bed.
I used an old flat sheet and cut it to size. Then I proceeded to make these pillows in one hour.

This pattern is so fast. Here is the bed looking its best.

For the last few days Lavenderridge was floating somewhere is ciberspace.
I couldn't retrieve my dashboard. What was blogger doing/thinking. How many of us lost info?

Well I seem to have gotten into a rut.

Have you ever been there before? So I thought what could I make with this quilting fabric.

Why not a few skirts.

So I guesstimated hmmmm thats not a word.... ok estimated what the little waists would be.

I started out with a 10x 35 piece of fabric for the body of the skirt.

Then I cut out 4"x35 for the skirt bottom.

Then I cut 8 x 26 for the waist. Added in my interfacing and sewed.

My antique singer featherwieght was just a humming....where have you been?????

So here are two cute little skirts for two beautiful girls.

What have you been up to?

I'm thinking I might have a sale or a givea way ....

there was darkness.

My mornings consist of rising early chatting with my bloggers and posting.

Sitting having two or more cups of java while I read all your lovely posts.Well after yesterdays post , a big ball of orange light came into the office.

My word what was that. DH looked outside and the tree accross from us had come down on the hydro lines and there was a big ball of flame.

...I forgot to mention that I was in the shower when all this was taking place.

OH NO , NO HYDRO... HOW AM I EVER GOING TO DRY MY HAIR....

You see my hair is natural curly. Without using the defuser I have the frizzies.

That should be the least of my problems. So for 6 hours we were in darkness.

The rains and the winds.. did I mention winds .. up to 90 clicks.

DH was on the phone right away Hydro explaining what happened.

We are in the country, so that means we have a sump pump. and with all that rain we have to make sure it does not leak into the basement. So DH kept a close eye on that sistuation. After 2 hrs and still no hydro DH got out the generator.

Plugged it into the sump pump.... hmmm, not working. Linda the sump pump is fried. OH NO !! So off DH goes to buy a new pump. He got that installed and then we waited. Horray ! here they are. I took some pictures of the men up the hoists just for you to seeThey arrive.....DONE..........

All fixed. Now for tea..

What a day that was.

"Aching all over"

How was everyone's Easter. I hope it was an eventful one like ours.

We had all the children and grandchildren for a total of 22.

Menu...spiral ham, mashed potatoes, turnip, creamed cauliflower, corn and can't forget the baked beans. Dessert... Black Forest Cake, lemon tarts and creamy french vanilla icecream. Oh I forgot to mention a crock full of Veg. chilli. yes these large rolls that look like a mushroom. They are so delicious.

Well are your mouths watering yet. Sorry no leftovers... well maybe enough ham for pea soup.

Our gardens are late this year compared to last. Our forsythia is just starting to bud and the flowering almond is about the same as the forsthia. My tulips and daffodils and crocus and hyacinths are blooming tremendously. They have multiplied.

We have had so much rain lately. Yesterday I took advantage of a hot sunny morning knowing that later the thundershowers were in the forcast.

I weeded and dug and weeded the front bed. We get that awful grass that grows in the garden, so when you dig and shake off the soil you pull for the roots are so long they travel a long way underground. There is a name for that grass???!!!

If you know what I mean. I'm going to make sure I transplant as many plants into the front beds so that next year there will be no room for weeds or grass to grow. We will be starting soon to lay a new walkway in the front with tumbled interlocking brick. So all those plants will be moved to the other beds.

Well,as I sit here this morning the rains come down again and they are heavy. The thunder is in the background and poor Max our lab shudders. He does not take to thunder.

I'm kinda glad its raining, so I can leave the weeding for another day. We have ten perrenial beds to weed. I ache all over. If it was up to dh, he would sod all the gardens. No he does not have a green thumb. How many husbands out there are the same?

I was hoping to put in a veg garden this year, but the back is so wet it's going to be awhile for that to drain and dry. OMG!! more aching. maybe by then my poor body will have limbered up.

What to do on a Rainy day

Make some pillow covers.I just love graphic fairy. I printed off a cute french saying.I tried to copy right from the site onto some fabric but my copier jammed.

So off to the $ store and I found some clear acrylic that you would use to protect books etc.

I cut my fabric to 8x10 and cut my acrylic to 8x10.

I then used my printed copy and my fabric that is now stablized with the acrylic backing and copied the print on to my fabric.

Perfect.

I needed to add to the sides and top enough fabric for a 15 x 15 cushion.

I love ticking and I used that for my backing as well as piping.

Well it turned out great. This is going to my daughter. Must get the other one done to match. Here is the other one finished.

It's time to change things up. Move over Roo, Bunnys turn..Here is a closeup of MR. PEEPS I love these little Easter birds. They are so yummy. Sorry once Easter is over so are the peeps.

Last year I made the carrots with my grandaughter over march break.
Take muslin and cut it on an angle. Stuff your carrot.. Don't forget to leave some fringe at the end . Tie a piece of muslin at the top to secure. Now you are ready to paint. If you want to see our progress go to march 28 /09here. The carrot table runner was also very easy.

Today I thought I would do some D I Y. So I pulled out my mod podge and went to work.

First I selected my clip art from here.

Then I printed it off and adhered it to my board.

I tarnished the edges to make it appear old.

OH MY GOSH ! Has this ever happened to you...

Oh My Gosh! Has this ever happened to you.....

My dh and I decided we needed new feather pillows for our bed. So off I went to my favourite store, HOMESENSE.

I purchased two down filled Calvin Klein pillows.

We when we arrived home I had the great "not so great" idea to wash our old pillows. You know I thought they could be used in the spare bedroom. NOT

Anyhow, I proceeded to wash these pillows and when the cycle was done and I opened my washer HELP!!!! There were feathers everywhere. There must have been pounds of feathers. Some wet some not so. So I had this bright idea again to salvage my feathers. I put them in a laundry bag and hung them outside to dry.

In the meantime I had to vacuum my washer to get rid of the rest. For weeks now we are still vacuuming up feathers that have clung onto clothing that has come out of the washer and dryer.

So here comes the fun part. I decided to make a new pillow.

I printed out clip art HERE. and then transferred it to this fabric.

I had some muslin fabric in stock to finish up my look. Here it is completed.

So while I was stuffing this pillow case feathers were going everywhere. It was snowing in my house. I should have worn a mask, not realizing the dander that comes with feathers. But I finished and here is the crown pillow.

While I was in the pillow mode I made a new cover for this pillow.
I had a fabric swap with Ariane and I made the pillow cover using some of the fabric as well as using Muslin.

I am able to turn the pillow over and use the back side as well.

Sew you see I still sew....

"SPRING" AROUND THE HOUSE

It's spring around our house.
The birds are singing and the sun has finally come out. The temps are rising.
Spring on my kitchen table. A nest and eggs. See the birds in the background.

Yellow tulips in an ironstone jug. I love using jugs instead of vases.
My white geranium has made it through the winter and is now flowering. Isn't it beautiful.
I managed to save 15 geraniums over winter. I pull them from the garden, shake off the dirt, put them in a box, then put them in the darkest part of the basement. Then at this time of the year I take them back out, cut them down to the new growth and plant them into containers. I always find that amazing that they will go dormant and then start to grow without soil or water. .

Mini Bathroom Makeover "Finale"
There was one wall left to complete this mini makeover. I decided to make my own shelf.
I used two garden box brackets (think outside the box) .
Added a piece of oak that I whitewashed, decided t0 paint it black... Placed my toiletries on the shelf. and added one cute little picture

Mini Bathroom makeover.

The walls are painted Benjamin Moore Muslin.
The trim is cloud white.Here are some before shots.

Enter Our sink , toilet and tub surround are in gray, so I worked in the Lavender accentsI made this swag in toile fabric and lined it in muslin.We added the new shower rod that is round to give us more space. .I picked up this cute lavender and white plate while I was antiquing on Sat.Clip art found at Graphics Fairy .com..Loved the small garden artifact I added to the heather.I have some art or baskets yet to add to another wall. I'll find that another time we are out and about. ..
Just some tweaking is all it needed. Our laundry is in behind these closed doors. That is one function that is so handy right next to the master suite.

Lavender

Lavender, I love Lavender

I'm in the process of doing a mini makeover on our main bathroom.
So I'm on the hunt for lavender accents.
Went shopping and found that there were none to be found at this time of year. So do the next best and make your own. This is a mini tutorial on making a Lavender
Went to Dollarama, picked up 3 stems of lavender, moss and had the rest at home.
What you need... a pot, florist foam, 3 stems of lavender, moss and a glue gun.
First I cut the foam the size of my pot opening and placed it in.
Next I measured the stems and cut them to fit.
Now press them into the foam making sure they go to the bottom of the pot.
Now you are ready to add the moss.
Make sure you heat up your glue gun and now start layering glue and moss till the pot and foam is covered. That's all there is to it.
One down, now on to the next curtains.

Here is a plant I did find. Purple Heather and I purchased this cute pot for it to go in. Don't you just love the bees.

Checkered Seat Cushion Covers and Tutorial

Well this has been a busy week so far.

So I thought I might as well start on the kitchen seat cushions , they are in need of new covers, don't you think.
Here is how it went.

Measure your width of your cushion, mine was 18" and add on 2 " so now my width is 20".

Measure your length of your cushion, mine was 17" and add on 17" plus add on an additional 4 "

for a total of 38".

Double the fabric right sides together the length of the fabric. so your fabric width is 20" and your length is now 19".

Lay your cushion on top of the fabric, and trace around the edge with a fabric marker. Make sure that the front edge of the cushion is at the fold.At the top trace in about 4" .

Mark off where the ties will attach and leave that space open and mark off at least 7 " for your opening.

Pin the layers together, and sew on the traced lines. At the top you will sew on an angle to the traced lines and continue sewing leaving the areas open for the ties and the opening.

Trim to about 1" all around.

Now you can turn your cushion cover right side out.

Now you are ready to make the ties.

Cut your fabric 4"X 35". You will need 8 ties in total. Iron in half then iron in 1/4" along the length then fold in half and sew down the side to form your ties.

Insert each tie into opening and sew closed from the wrong side of fabric. Once they are in place stuff your cover with your cushion.

Now its time to sew up opening. I found that if I hand basted it first it was easier to sew on the machine. No Needles to get in the way.

Well there you have it. 4 finished cushions.If I have left out any steps, please don't hesitate to email me.

Valances done in....

I went with the Toile. I love the English countryside or maybe a little France. Tour around my kitchen and you will find roosters
, ironstone and many English transfer ware dishes. I have one plate that I love right in the middle of my hutch. Can you see it there. The red and white one. So that's where I took my inspiration from and decided to sew with the Toile fabric.
These sewed up quite fast once I measured my windows.
I also lined these valances with muslin. Muslin is another fabric that I like to have lots of.
With the leftover fabric I made a table runner. Yes you guessed it I lined it as well with the muslin.
Tulips in yellow really make everything pop with colour.
I have decided with the check fabric to make new cushion covers for the chairs.

Since it's National Puppy Day, here is Fergus and Max wishing all you puppys out there Have a Super Dog Day.

A Finish and a Parcel

Hi everyone. Well I finally finished the binding on this cute baby quilt.
Here are some pictures of the baby quilt. It measures 42" x 42" and if you recall I made it reversible. Also a pillow to match.
Yipee the postman came and delivered a package that I have been anxiously waiting for.
It came from Sew Unique Creations. Thanks Tara, the shirtings are gorgeous.
One fat quarter bundle of Andover fabrics . Can't wait to get started.HMMM what will I create..

As well my package came from Hancocks, 10 yds of Kona solids white. I Love my white for backgrounds.
Well I must get back to finishing my kitchen valances.

Getting back to my old self

Thanks for all the Get Well wishes. It sure helped.

So pour yourself a tea or coffee and sit awhile. I have some catching up to do.

Well this past week was March break for the kids. I had my granddaughter come stay for a few days and she loves to do crafts with her Nana.

So out I pulled my box of styro foam balls and paper clay and we started working on snowman. I have never tried paper clay, but found it quite easy to work with. Did I tell you she is just seven, So after a few hours we came up with these. I know there is a long way to go before they are finished . But not bad for a first.... These now sit for 24hrs to dry and then we can continue adding on more clay...

So while these are drying we went and played a game or two on the Wii.

I promise not to exert myself and cause another asthma attack.

Well I did mention about the family room in my last post and how it looks so lovely painted. Here are some more pics of the finished room. I just love itIt's so bright and airy.

I have done some sewing/quilting... you don't think that I would have let that go

did you. Well here is the pillow finished and the quilt still to sew on the binding. Did I happen to mention I made this reversible.

The fabric is Fandango. This is a baby quilt for my new great grandaughter.

My granddaugter wanted a quilt that was modern not your average baby quilt with teddies and such. So I know she will be thrilled when she sees this one.

I have this fabric that I purchased some time ago. The toile and the checked.

I would like to make a valance for my kitchen window. I'm torn between the two.I have an all white kitchen with red accents. So either one would do. But what one?

I also have doors leading out to a deck. I would like to add some colour there as well.

I'm sure there is enough for cushions for the chairs as well.

Guess what my next project is going to be.......

Mr Lavenderridge has been busy in his shop making more wooden toys. We have ten grandchildren and he is going to put their names into a hat and each one of them will receive on of his gorgeous toys.

The family room/great room gets an uplift...

A new year and a new look. Since we moved in a year ago, this was the only room that did not get painted.

So here are some before pictures and after pictures .

We used Benjamin Moore Cloud White on the ceiling and Pale Almond on the wall behind the TV and the upper wall above the shelf. Below the shelf we used Brazil Nut. We carried that colour around the room to the bar wall. Oh how it opens up this already large room. The room is 25x25.

So we went out today to find a MAMA Chair to match PAPA chair. No luck! There is always tomorrow. I am also replacing a small window covering with faux blinds to match the other larger window that faces to the front of the house.

When we were out today we purchased two new smoke alarms. Ours are wired into the house and at 3:00 am the one went off and on. There was no smoke, just a worn out smoke alarm. Our Lab Max just about jumped into bed with us. So they are now installed, so no more excitement in the middle of the night.

Now I can get back to sewing and finishing this cute baby quilt.

passing the time

Passing the time...
Well what have I been up to. I must have too much time on my hands.
I drew out this replica of my singer featherweight on some fabric.
Then I proceeded to add a small quilt. After that I coloured it using my crayola crayons.
Then set the picture with a hot iron and freezer paper.

I thought I would frame it . Do you think there is a little resemblance?

I have also been busy putting together a baby quilt for my new greatgrandaughter due in June. I know I'm a little ahead of myself but this way If I'm not satisfied with how it turns out then there is plenty of time to make another.
What have you been up to???

Some good news, today was my last day at physio for my wrist. It's been a long process since I broke it Aug 31. My wrist is 80% as good as the other wrist. I see my specialist on Monday.

On other news.... I must be going crazy.. all this colouring.

My grandaughter painted this solar system and asked if I could transfer it on to cloth and quilt it.
One thing is for sure, I'm getting practice in making circles.

So here it is folks..

As well this weekend is another grandaughters birthday. Yes I know I promise not to dance too much... LOL

So for one of her gifts she has asked for some of our pictures of her for her scrapbook.

I did one better and made this banner for her. I quilted lots and lots of hearts.

I hope she likes it.

I also received this week a purchase that my friend Janet made for me @ rainbows end, Dunedin, FL. She sent these items home with a friend of ours.

The Hooty Hoot is going into a baby quilt, that is as soon as I find out that it is a boy or a girl..

The other fabric 12 days of xmas ??? not sure yet. Can you also see a bag. That will come in handy transporting my quilts to and from the guild... A BIG THANKS GOES OUT TO JANET AND CATHY....

Well I'm sitting here waiting for some news of my dear sisters operation. She went in for 10 and the operation started at 12 till ???? My niece is going to call as soon as she gets any word. It's a major operation so my prayers are out there.

Trying to keep busy and keeping the phone lines open.

MUG RUG FOR VALENTINES!

I just finished this cute little mug rug for a dear friend.

First I drew this cute bird and then coloured it with crayons. I love this technique. Set the colours and then proceeded adding on my borders.

Hope she likes it.

Went to the doctors and she put me on two puffers,one ventilin and the other flovent to help with my inflamed chest. I also went for xrays. I'm sure that everything will be fine.

Well do you remember this.... |Prairie Points Tree, well I had some fabric leftover and this is my version of Mon Ami!!

Do you like? I changed it up a little to make due with the fabrics I had on hand.

It's been awhile since I made something that had so many half square triangles.268 to be exact.
Well I'm off to the guild tonight. Must remember to pack up Prairie Points Tree and my new Mon Ami...

No Calorie Cupcakes!!

Brrrrrrrrr. We have had another dumping of snow this morning and it has finally stopped.

Now it is turning much colder and with high winds. Stay in an keep warm. Tonight is our card club. We play progressive euchure. We also have pot luck prior to playing cards.

I'm bringing dessert. I made a marble pound cake ( a recipe from an old friend) and then I melted dark chocolate over the top. I will also bring fresh whipped cream to go with this delicious cake.

So I got busy in my sewing room to make the ladies some cupcakes..

These are ones that don't require any baking..

Stephanie @ Loft Creations posted about her cupcakes and with this dessert theme I have going on I saw it fit to make these..

Don't they look scrumptious. No calories in these babies.

I want to thank you all for your kind thoughts and concerns about my scare. I am going to the Dr's on Tues. just to be sure everything is ok...

WHAT A SCARE!

Last night we celebrated our grandaughters fifteenth birthday. Wow where does the time fly. She was just born yesterday...

Well we all went to a fine restaurant and then back to my sons place for cake and tea. Oh course and presents. Well that part went smoothly.

It was when she received a wii gift Lets dance.
Thats when it all started.
Come On Nana lets dance. So Up I got and did all the moves and I must say scored big... Then my heart started pounding really fast... and the coughing started. I was having an asthma attack. At first I thought it was just a tickle in my throat and a glass of water would help. Not a chance. I coughed and coughed. I went outsided hoping the cold night air would help. Not a chance. I know you should not use someone elses puffer, but at that point I had no choice. It was my daughters. I still continued to cough, so I boiled the water to have some caffene . I heard that a hot cup of java helps. At this point I would try anything. They were all so helpful and worried. I did not want to upset them. Are you OK Nana.
After getting the caffene into me I settled down long enough for the ride home. It is only a half hour drive. Once home I took some Buckleys, and that stopped the tickle. I finally relaxed and went off to bed.....

I sure was scared. That has never happened to me. I have had some asthma problems, but not to that extent.

I guess you can say that I'm a little out of shape... or leave it to the kids to dance their hearts out....

Gosh I used to love to dance . But I guess this game was a little to strenuous for this Nana.

I still have a little cough this morning, take it easy day.

Isn't he cute. Fergus that is.
He just came back from a day at the spa.

Well I'm done!
Prairie Points Xmas Tree. The prairie points were made from 5" Kate Spain 12 days of Christmas and the binding and borders were from another designer. Sherry Berry Designs. I really love that small pointsettia on the binding. I might use that fabric in my Mon Ami pattern. Hmmm. Well I'm off to my sewing studio to see what I can get into.

Busy Hands!

No resolutions for me. I only break them. Live for today life is short!

So today my hands have been busy. I pulled out my scraps and staring cutting. You see I received these new quilt books for Christmas. Need I say more.....

Then I took my fat quarters from Kate Spain, 12 days of Christmas and cut 5" blocks.

To a total of 55. You see I started this tree with Prairie Points. This was featured on Moda Bakeshop or Cara's Quilts. So I'm off tomorrow to Quilters Cupboard to pick up sashings to finish this cute wall hanging.

I have decided to pull out all my ufo's not many and start them. Here are the two.

One is from Bonnie Hunter, I had a head start on this one using my GO!. The other is a panel that I will cut up into runners for next fall harvest.

The fabrics are Red Roooster.

Then later this week I'm going to Home Depot. That's where I saw clear plastic bins that would be great to hold all new cuts. I believe they were only 99cents each. How could a girl go wrong with those prices.

Just before Christmas my DGD came over and she drew this cute picture of her and her brother.

So I copied it onto fabric and my DGD coloured it in. I then stitched around the figures and the added my batting and backing and quilted it. Added on the binding and here it is finished. Its hanging in her room. A little keepsake. As well I dabbled in drawing a ford pick up like my dear DH's and this is what he got as one of his gifts
. He was overjoyed.

While I am busy in my sewing studio, DH is in his workshop making these . Are they not a piece of Art ... The humming of my sewing machine and the humming of his sander or scrollsaw every little piece is hand done. Just look at the detail.

Happy January 1st!

Wow ! I can't believe that 2010 is already gone...

My Christmas was awesome . Family and friends. Santa was great to me. A new TV to fit in my Living room. You know sometimes we need to watch a chick flick , as my dh says. A tear jerker.
or a sewing show or how about City Line or a decorating show DIY.
Lets just say all of the above.
My DH likes to watch the History channel, discovery ..... So now I get to watch my shows or a neat chick flick.
Well the rushing around prior to Christmas, decorating, shopping,
food shopping has come to an end. I hope everyones Christmas and New Years was an eventful
one.

Now for the New Year resolutions.
Hmmmm.

I'll have to get back to you on that one.

DONE, DONE, DONE...

Done, done , done.... My charm quilt.

If you recall I started this charm quilt back in August. Did all the cutting into 5" charms, white and Kansas Troubles fabric. Then it sat because I fell and broke my wrist. My posting on November 25th sums it up. IS IT EVER GOING TO END ????? Well here it is completed. If you go to Freckled Whimsy. Tutorials, Charm pack quilt along. You will see a fine selection of charm quilts. Mine is changed up a little.

The quilt should have been smaller. I made mine for a queen bed. I added to the top all those nine patch. I believe it looks amazing... It all came together. "Patience is a virtue".

All that's left to do is wrap it up for Christmas. This is going to my Son and DIL. Now on to other projects... How many days left have I got?????

BRRRRRRRR baby it's cold outside

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr baby it's cold outside.....

Look at this snowman , doesn't he look cold. The winds are blowing and it's snowing here again today. Yesterday my GD and her parents made this in our yard. It was a milder day even though it was snowing.

Lets go in for some hot chocolate and make our Gingerbread house. Sounds like a great idea. Didn't my GD and DD do a great job.. There first together.

While its a day for working on houses, this little church got painted by GD and then DD and GD went about glittering and adding snow. Now that's another fine job.

Well I just got a call from our local quilt guild.. Tonight's Christmas pot luck has been cancelled due to the weather. Good thing I wasn't looking forward to the drive.
So back to hand sewing down the binding on my sons gift..

Christmas Shopping, Cookies, Wrapping

Up early this morning and on the road by 9:30. Picked up my daughter for a day of Christmas shopping. Today was the day to finish. FINALLY>>> All done.....
We shopped here, there and everywhere. By 4:00 pm we were done. I mean done . Our feet, backs and body just ached all over. I can remember a time when I could shop all day into the evening. NO MORE..

Well first its time to put together my hostess gifts. We go every Christmas Eve to my nieces and celebrate with my side of the family. So here's her gift. How does it look? There's a little of this and that. Can you see I put in a couple of mug rugs. Wonder if she will know what they are.

My best friend comes tomorrow for a luncheon. Here's her gift already to go. I kept the theme to snowman. She loves snowman.

Time to get baking. After 3 long hours in the kitchen I made my favourite shortbread 7 dozen. They melt in your mouth.. plus 4 doz. pecan cookies. I will pack up a few into these containers and give them to their dh's. I don't want them to feel left out..

I saw these at our dollar store. Great for appetizers. Aren't they cute.Sat. night I have my GD for a sleep over and first thing Sunday morning I think we will make this...

Well it's 10:30pm and I'm sitting here enjoying my glass of merlot. Cheers.

CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY...

Wrap them up for under the tree?

HMMMMMMM.... Right now I'm going to enjoy them.

Look what came......
I ordered awhile back this lovely fat quarter bundle from FABRIC .COM, MODA FRUITCAKE. As well as 5 yds of muslin. You cannot have too much muslin. I use is in backgrounds, backing, half square triangles, pillow forms, etc, etc, etc...

Well last year around this time I mentioned my lovely friend who vacations in FL. Look what she sent home with friends of ours.
AccuQuilt Go Die , Tumbling block 6 1/2 ", A caddy to hold my dies,
A great quilting book and 5 fat quarters of Kate Spain design.
Well whats a girl to do. Wrap them from dh or enjoy them now......

I am so grateful for all my friends that I have made over the year.
Thank you for your kind thoughts about my wrist and finger. I have not stopped sewing as you can see . My charm quilt sits on the frame waiting to be quilted.

In my spare time the other day , lol, I whipped up this cute plate passer,
or plate carrier... from Anka's Treasures,
A great hostess gift.

Well it's beginning to look a lot like CHRISTMAS..
