GONE TO THE BIRDS

That's what my husband sometimes thinks of me. Gone to the birds. I informed him the other night that I was going down to the workshop to make birdhouses. Did I mention that I am also handy in the woodworking dept. So down I went and drew up a pattern, cut the sides and front and back. OOps I forgot to make the sides higher to accomodate the roof. So I cut some more. Wil yelled down to make sure everything was ok. He worrys when I use power tools. BANG,BANG , SAW, SAW. HAMMER SOME MORE. Wil came down when I was ready to drill holes in the front as well in the roof. I used recycled wood for the roof and angled it to represent a Quebec home. Once it was glued and nailed I proceeded to paint. After the paint was dry I started with birdhouse 2. That one I made no mistake with the sides. Once it was complete I painted it red. I left the roof original since it had a green patina.I made the holes too small so off to the basement to enlarge. With birdhouse #1 I sanded it then applied a dark stain and immediately wiped it off. It looked too red for me so out came the brown shoe polish. A few coats later did the trick.
On to my BOM # 4 of Bunny Hill Designs, it seems that it took forever. but now it is complete.
Now its time to start on my next project. I had in my mind what kind of pin cushion I would make for the exchange, so off I went to my sewing room. Here is what I ended up with. A Prim Bird PinKeeper. I just love working with wool.
The flowers are so pretty on my porch so I took a few pictures to share with you. The Lilac bush is in full bloom. Can you smell the fragrant flowers?Well I'm off tomorrow to our local guild to help set up for our quilt show. There are to be more than 100 quilts on display. I will make sure that I take lots of pictures to share with everyone. Boy this was a lengthy post......

Sunny Sunday out touring should be quilting

Once again it is a sunny Sunday, We took the meteor this time out with us. We started with a flea market in the town of Lakefield. I love vintage linen hand towels, so I purchased 6 for $5.00, then at another table I found these cute chicks, I had to have them. They were listed at 2 for $10.00, so I left them till the end so I could barter. I got them for $5.00 for the pair. they look so cute with my egg basket. Then I found the cutest watering can. It had been decopage with fish, fishing bugs etc. They wanted $5.00 and I bartered for $3.00. Sold.. On to the next flea market , our favorite. I bought a black windsor chair for $20.00 , what a steel, a pyrex yellow 2 1/2 qt bowl to add to my collection for $3.00. I had Wil stop at Zellars so I could purchase a pyrex pie 9 1/2 " with handles. I had seen it advertised on Aunt Ruthies sight. Sugarpie farmhouse. If you haven't visited there yet its a treat.
So here I am at home with the towels in the sink and I'm using a soap called Linda. Its great for stains. Who'd thought that I had a soap for laundry!! Here are the hand towels starched and pressed and hanging in my washroom.Well you see my string quilt on the frame waiting to be quilted. One small detail, I need to get backing . Well off to the basement I want to build a bird house, after my house. And by the way our house is up for sale. The sign went on the front lawn Friday. So house hunting we go.............

Sunny Sunday out touring

We have been busy preparing our home for sale. Today was such a beautiful day for touring with our friends. We own the 49ford red p/u and they own the 48ford p/u. We left here around 11:00 this morning. Our first stop was a flea market and thats where I picked up the 2 gal crock and this cute wire basket. I plan on painting it Black . The Crock I will fill with flowers for my front porch.

Then we drove another hour north to another flea market where Wil picked up a back window light for our 49 Meteor car. The tail lights are so small, sometimes we wonder if other vehicles can see our brake lights. We continued on our journey to a cute little cottage town called Fenlon falls. That's where we had a terrific lunch/supper. Wil and I both had the special CABBAGE ROLLS. They were to die for. With the cabbage rolls came mashed potatoes , turnip, and cooked carrots. We continued our touring to another town called Bobcaygeon. That's where Red Rock antiques are. I came upon a chimney that I needed for my Hurricane lamp. I plan on placing it on my washstand to make it complete.
We made our way back to Fenlon Falls to Tim Hortons for coffee and a sweet. When we returned home we had put 80 miles on the trucks. It was a great day.

Mondays Surprize

I
forgot about a couple of patterns and a book I ordered through a friends shop.
When I arrived at our Guild meeting today, there they were. Two patterns from Bunny Hill Designs. One a pin cushion Bitty Bird, and the other Catch a Christmas Star. I know if I start the Catch a Christmas Star now it may be done for Christmas. I have a dear friend who loves snowman. This will be a suprise. Maybe I will make a few. And the other was a Book. Fresh Vintage Sewing by Fig Tree quilts.
I wish I had my camera with me today, I would have shown you some beautiul quilts.
We have a library at the guild , so we can sign out books/patterns and return them by the next mtg. Our guild runs Sept-June. I am the Chairperson for the Workshop and program committee. We had a gentlemen in from Ailsa Craig showing quilts that he brought back from Northern Ireland. His store the Cotton-by-post will exhibit these quilts and more in October 2009. I hope to get there. Here are the books I signed out. Some good reading.
I hope everyone had a great mothers day.

Some of my birthday gifts

I received beautiful gifts for my special day, Here are a few to share with you. A beautiful prim bowl. I had my eye on this and my daughter Jill scooped it up without me noticing. Just love the patina and oldness. How many hands touched the handles? A lovely lady hand painted the fruit in the centre. Looks so real, good enough to eat. As well a Sizzix with 7 dies included. I will have fun designing . Does anyone out there have an original sizzix? Maybe you can give me some pointers.

QUILT AS YOU GO

Good day ! Was everyones weekend as busy as mine? We celebrated our middle sons 40th birthday. Tommorrow we will celebrate mine. Oh to be 40 again. Mind you I feel 40. We don't age do we!
As you recall a few postings
back I started a quilt called quilt as you go. My red material is for my back and the white is for the sashings. I cut batting at 9 " and my squares to 9 1/2"
then I cut them in half. when I completed the square I cut it to 8 1/2".
Well here is the finished product. If you require the pattern just e-mail me and I would be glad to send it to you. The quilt measures 51 1/2" x 68 "
Happy Stitching !
